what rocked my 2008 :)

January 4, 2008
Davao International Airport

It's always difficult to leave home. I thought I've gone past the crying but every single time I still struggle because once the first tear falls, I know I'd be bawling all night long. So to cheer myself up while waiting for my plane to arrive, I'm writing this and counting down the 8 best things that happened to me in 2008.

8. Boracay

It's not my favorite place in the world but I went there three times last year. I owe a lot of both good times and bad times (including the next item) to this place.

7. Letting Go

I've let go of a lot of things, not once but twice for two things I hold deem important apart from family, and though they were some representations of physically detaching myself, the more liberating thing is to finally move forward.

6. Music

It was my decision not to go to the Eheads Reunion Concert but my Ipod music care of my dearest D abound with the music of the band that accompanied me during the years when I needed some affirmation of the realities back then. And while I'm not a fan of Daughtry, Chris Brown and Rihanna I must admit that their live performances gave me a high.

5. Macau

My first time in Macau eclipsed my visit to HK but that's not to say I didn't enjoy HongKong Disneyland. It was just that landing on the port all alone and walking around the cobbled streets that display a proud conservative heritage but is also a witness to the excesses of this modern world is a contrast that will leave you with a lot of thoughts and memories.

4. Sunday Club

I always look forward to my weekly meet-ups with my college friends because as I have said before and I will say it again, I get by with a lot of help from them. Ebench rocks!

3. 27 Dresses

The many weddings I attended this year were all memorable to me. Each has its own story to tell. Some of the best moments include my gown strap getting torn, my best actress crying scene caught on tape, my fabulous last minute dates and so much more.

2. Meeting Kimi

Sort of. Watching the first ever Singapore Grand Prix Night race was the best! Sports, F1 in particular, rules my world so you can just imagine the excitement and kilig I felt when I first saw Kimi's Ferrari roar past me. No matter how fast the cars went, it seemed that time slowed down everything for me as I savored each and every lap - even the practice laps.

1. Long Holiday Break

For the first time since '99 I never once thought about work or school over the holidays. I was not in a hurry to go back to Manila. I admit school and work were great distractions back then, making it easier for me to leave home. I'm just really thankful that this time I was given the chance to really go back to what really matters - holding on to my faith, being hopeful and unending love for family.

Until next year! Bring it on 2009 :)
