go ateneo! one big fight! all the way from sinagpore ;)
so yesterday morning i woke up thinking who'll win the game and then i had to put that at the back of my head. i still had to rob a bank for some money and demand power plant to open earlier than they should so i can buy last minute stuff for my trip. just kidding, i had to give in to the power of the dollars because peso is no good in singapore. i need my raffles stash for my plane ride and i bought a goody brush because we're talking f1 here. i don't think i can go around sporting my combed once hair all the way until the evening. haha.minutes into landing i started getting anxious. i kept telling cherry that i can't wait to open my phone. cherry is one of my dear friends from college and i can pinpoint why we are still friends until now - sports! we are on this singapore trip together to watch the first ever formula one night race, again it's the sports thing. we were two of the happiest people when the ateneo blue eagles became uaap champions during our senior year. as part of the sports staff of the guidon since our freshman year, we've seen the team through it all so it was really special.
last year i was so depressed as i'm sure the entire ateneo community was. this year i want the championship for, more than anyone else, chris tiu. i think the kid has the heart of a champion and there's only one way to prove it - to win and so he did.
i turned on my phone as soon as we were allowed to and as if i'm not a technophobe i actually remembered to manually look for sing tel. i have three mesages! false alarm. all from sing tel. then came another message. it was erika checking if i already landed and giving me last minute instructions. i distracted myself by looking at the f1 stuff scattered all over the changi airport. and then came THE message form my main man, my dad!
tatay: champion ang iglesia ni tiu. yahoo! i told che and then we were so happy. i felt like 2002 all over again. but we were not alone even in this foreign land. the other people nearby were also frantically checking their phones and when they found out, they were jumping up and down and hugging each other. then my parents called to dish me off the details. my first question was "anong score?" 62-51. you were no match la salle that's what i thought. and then next question "did chris play well? did he win anything?" and the answer was, by this time my mom already grabbed the phone from my dad, "he won something, hinakot nila ang awards." everyone was already looking my way and when i put down the phone i got a thanks from two friends, who i assume were ateneans becuase they were beaming, behind me "thank you, salamat sa details." i turned to cherry and i said "naiiyak ako" hahahaha but che understood and all she can say was "awwwww." thank you chris tiu and thank you to the many people who shared the news.
to jason, for being the first person to make me believe that this is it. i asked him if we'll win and his answer captured it all "1000%"
mama, "ONE BIG FIGHT!" followed by a text on the details regarding the bonfire.
rich, "WE WON!"
D, "Tal! Ateneo won, 62-51!"
i never expected the championship to come this early. you know we're used to waiting a bit longer. but times change so to la salle, until next year. i hope next time you actually show up in the awarding ceremonies ;) i was going to congratulate you for giving us something to look forward to this season but never mind so i just hope we see you again next year!
so now kimi has to top this good news lah ;) i better go change, i'm meeting cherry in orchard at 10! ;)
