shumone

crushes are so high school but it still is quite a phenomenon for me so when shumone sends a wink to me via twitter, i was so gleeful ;) internet is so amazing that it gets you to connect to people from miles and away and even if some of them are stars in their own right, they actually take the time to interact so thank you internet!

it's about time though that i let that go and live right here and right now but thank again for that fun bit of my february :)

invictus

out [of the night] that cover me
black as the pit from pole to pole
i thank whatever gods maybe
for my unconquerable soul

in the fell clutch of circumstance
i have not winced nor cried aloud
under the bludgeoning of chance
my head is bloody but unbowed

[beyond this place of wrath and tears
looms but the horror of the shade
and yet the menace of the years
finds and shall find me unafraid]

it matters not how straight the gate
how charged with punishments the scroll
i am the master of my fate
i am the captain of my soul

that's me writing this poem out of memory, the ones in [] are the words and stanza that i had a hard time remembering. i watched the movie not because of the poem. honestly the title sounded familiar but the poem immediately did not register until the first few scenes of seeing matt damon. hehe. but really the highlight of the movie was not when the poem was read with just the right amount of imagery. even if that particular sequence gave me chills, it was the way the entire story was told that won me. the sports angle, a dead giveaway to capture my attention but the rest of it kept me hanging in there and just wanting more. more of real life that i could learn from. from the great mandela to the humble francois, this movie abounds with inspiration enough to unite a whole nation or simply to move one soul to abide by the essence of the poem AND the movie.

hi there percy

it's not like i don't like the gods, it's just that there's too many of them so it's rather difficult to keep track. i watched percy jackson only because BF paid for my ticket but it turns out percy and i have the potential of being tight. hehe. according to an aura reader (again not a fan of the mystic but got dragged by D and BF), my element is water so even if i'm no offspring of poseidon i'd like to believe there is some truth there. i like the beach not for swimming but for watching/staring in the horizon. i stay longer in the treadmill because i like the sight of kids playing in the pool. last and more important, i think it's water that is keeping me alive. with the amount of sweets and salty foods that i eat, i'm unhealthy as you can get but because of the many glasses of water i drink in a day, i'm still okay. for all of these, i'm glad to meet you percy. you did come in handy in so many ways.

to expound on the salty and sweet foods bit, i would just like to say - and i shall write it down for emphasis - that in the next 40 days i will be on a self imposed detox for hopefully the right reason. it's the least i can do as a faithful and the best i can do as someone who wants to have many more years to live life to the fullest.

so today i ate half a bag of of original royce' chocolate covered potato chip while finishing the latest issue of f1 racing not as my last supper but to commence the more than a month of doing only the good. and yes f1, i categorize among the good but as for royce', i need my space ;)

love, actually ;)

a movie with too many stars in it is doomed to failure so why i agreed to watch valentine's day at 12 midnight even if i didn't get to sleep the day before and i had a breakfast meeting the same day is a mystery to me. and then it hit me i live for the corny things in life and lines like "love is the only shocking thing left in this planet" is enough for me to not rate the movie as a complete and utter failure. this is not to say however that it came any closer to one of my favorite movies of all time.

it's truly a wonderful coincidence for valentine's day to be on the same day as chinese new year. now more than ever we need to be reminded that love, actually will and should rule this world. upon realizing this, i guess that best time to start spreading the love is today when the universe has aligned the stars with the day of a saint who believed.
