Why I wear a LIVESTRONG band?

The band was about a specific cause, to be sure, but it had also turned out to be something universal. It wasn't just about rallying behind Lance Armstrong the cyclist but about supporting the Lance who'd surviced cancer and found a way each and every day of his life to challenge his mental, physical, and emotional limits. The yellow band became, in essence, a symbol of hope and faith that was just as powerful to its wearer as the rosary beads were to the pilgrims who'd made their way to Lourdes. It was as if by wearing the bracelet, the average person could be inspired to live a more courageous life. The yellow coloring, so obviously a symbol of Tour greatness, reinforced that notion.

The stars above are too far us to reach, but we can use them to guide us home on a dark night. A yellow wristband. A silver bracelet. The smell of freshly packed lavender. The warmth of the sun. A man gliding forward on a bicycle. The things we chase, the things we follow, the fight within us. That's what Chasing Lance was all about. And even if he were never to ride again, I'd know where to find him.

It is what it is.

And I get it now. Thanks to Martin Dugard.
